Kiwi Care Package Company, a South Tahoe, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 90 pounds of Wattie’s canned spaghetti with sausage that was not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection and was received from a New Zealand establishment that was not eligible to export product to the U.S., the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. Without the benefit of full inspection, a possibility of adverse health consequences exists.
The product was imported on September 1, 2016. The following products are subject to recall: 137 cans weighing 300 grams each labeled “Wattie’s Spaghetti with Sausages ‘100% Lamb & BEEF.’”
The products subject to recall bear New Zealand establishment number “PH233”. The product was sold through the internet.
The problem was discovered on September 22, 2016, by FSIS during routine monitoring of import shipments. On September 23, 2016, FSIS confirmed that there was a failure to present shipment and the products were already in commerce without receiving FSIS re-inspection upon entry to the United States. Additionally, it was determined that the product was not produced by an establishment in New Zealand eligible to export to the United States.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
