Ingredients Solutions Inc. has produced a white paper detailing the myths about carrageenan, a naturally occurring seaweed extract used to improve texture and stability in food products. The paper was drafted in response to claim that carrageenan is unsafe for human consumption.

“However, in 70+ years of carrageenan being used in processed foods, not a single substantiated claim of an acute or chronic disease has been reported as arising from carrageenan consumption,” the company states, also pointing to numerous studies that the additive poses no threat, including a FDA report that dismissed a petition to ban it from food products.
