Southern Recipe, a leading pork rind brand, will advocate for the more than 3.5 million hard working truck drivers in our country who travel nearly 400 billion miles each year with its 8th Annual Truck Driver Appreciation campaign. This summer, the brand will draw awareness to the oftentimes underserved population of truck drivers who help to keep America running. In conjunction with St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) during Truck Driver Appreciation Week, September 8-14, Southern Recipe will donate $10,000 to the organization’s cause.

After witnessing hundreds of truck drivers and their families struggle to survive as a result of illnesses and injuries, Dave Nemo, host of the Dave Nemo Show, and his partner Michael Burns, were compelled to take action. They found a willing partner in Dr. John McElligott, and together, they launched a truck driver charity to come to the aid of professional semi-truck drivers in need.

“The truck driving industry has a lot of heart. It’s also an industry that is oftentimes under supported, despite the vital role it plays within the food industry, as a whole,” shares Mark Singleton, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Southern Recipe and Rudolph Foods. “In previous years, we’ve worked hard to help St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund to raise awareness and support truck drivers. This year, we aim to make an even deeper impact, while also driving tangible action.”

“American Trucking Associations has estimated that there is still a truck driver shortage of 60,000 drivers, despite growth over the past year. The demand continues to grow faster than jobs are able to be established. It’s important that we continue to care for truck drivers on the road right now, so they can carry on a legacy of excellence as the industry expands,” said Shannon Currier, Director of Philanthropy and Development at St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. “We’re proud to work with partners like Southern Recipe who are just as passionate about supporting our road warriors as we are.”

Through this year’s Truck Driver Appreciation Week awareness campaign, it is the Southern Recipe’s and SCF’s hope to help both consumers and businesses understand the importance that this hard-working segment of society plays in bringing the food we eat every day to America’s tables – and to collaborate towards a solution to the industry’s challenges.
