Firefighters spent three hours battling a fire inside a ProPortion Foods processing plant this week. The Los Angeles Times reports that the fire, originally thought to be contained to a kitchen along one side of the 75,000-square-foot building, eventually spread to and destroyed the roof of the building.
A gas line in the ceiling helped to drive the blaze and complicate the efforts of the more than 170 firefighters at the scene. Small explosions were also audible, which officials attributed to the propane tanks on forklifts inside.
There were no injuries reported. An LAFD spokesman said that the building was likely to be declared a total loss.
