More than 50 city, project and company executives turned out this week for the official groundbreaking of the North Country Smokehouse expansion project in Claremont, N.H. The award-winning meat company will be moving to a 66,900-square-foot facility and will hire up to 70 new employees, reports the Claremont Eagle Times.
North Country Smokehouse founder Mike Satzow sold the fourth-generation family business to the Canadian company Les Specialties Prodal in March 2015. The company is headed by Julien Breton. Specialties Prodal produces meat pies, bacon and pasta sauces under brands such as Paysan, Paysan Naturel, and Table d’Hote. The two companies have had strong business ties over the last 15 years.
“We know you will be successful and the city is delighted to have you here,” City Manager Guy Santagate said at the groundbreaking. “This is a very big day because the business would have been sold to a big company that would have moved elsewhere,” he said.
