Corn and soybean production is down from 2021, according to the Crop Production report issued Sept. 12 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
An independent study by the Juday Group quantified the returns that red meat exports brought to national corn and soybean producers in 2021, and at state levels for corn- and soybean-producing states.
Feed ingredients are the No. 1 cost component of the protein business, followed by labor and energy. Oil prices are historically linked to feed-ingredient crops.
Last year saw an almost-record crop and 2014 is on schedule to be even better. U.S. farmers become more efficient every year at increasing yield per acre.
