Surveyed producers were asked to report their cattle inventories as of Jan. 1, 2023, and calf crop for the entire year of 2022 by internet, mail, telephone or in-person interview.

Nominations are open to the public and any interested person or organization may nominate qualified individuals.

Farm operations of all sizes, urban and rural, which produced and sold, or normally would have sold, $1,000 or more of agricultural products in 2022, are included in the ag census.

As of Sept. 1, there were 73.8 million hogs and pigs on U.S. farms, down 1% from September 2021 but up 2% from June 1, 2022.

The two organizations celebrate 50 years of working together to provide timely, accurate, and useful statistics in service to U.S. agriculture.
