The scholarship is named for Catherine A. Knupp DVM, M.S., who exemplifies the type of leadership AAVMC seeks to nurture through its scholarships.

Dr. Ruby L. Perry is the first African American female president of the AAVMC.

Dr. Andrew T. Maccabe has been appointed to the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) board of directors effective January 2023.

These scholarships support AAVMC’s efforts as a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion in veterinary medicine.

The awards represent significant professional achievement in veterinary medicine through research, diversity, leadership and teaching.

In 2018, the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) teamed up with the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) to establish the FFAR Vet Fellows and integrate the fellowship with existing summer student research programs.
