The National Provisioner and Kent Rollins, the acclaimed “chuck wagon cook” who has appeared on a variety of cooking shows and events across the country, are celebrating the release of Rollins’ new cookbook, “A Taste of Cowboy: Ranch Recipes and Tales from the Trail”, by giving away copies of the cookbook along with Rollins’ signature seasoning blends!

Raised in Hollis, Okla., near the banks of the Red River, Kent Rollins spent much of his childhood helping his dad with cattle or his mom in the kitchen. Armed with what he had learned from his parents and years of Dutch oven cooking for hunters deep in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico, Rollins eventually took to the trail with his trusty camp stove (lovingly named Bertha) and in 1993 started the Red River Ranch Chuck Wagon Catering.

Outfitted with a restored 1876 Studebaker wagon (the first “Meals on Wheels”), Kent and his wife Shannon spent the last two decades traveling across the country catering everything from weddings to corporate events to heritage festivals, all the while preserving a part of America’s history. Kent has even been named the Official Chuck Wagon Cook of Oklahoma, by its governor.

But perhaps most unique, in addition to cooking for fans on the modern trail, Kent also takes pride in continuing to cook out on the range for working cowboys. A fading tradition, there are few wagon chefs who still cook on ranches. Yet, Kent fills the boots of “Ranch Cookie” across the Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas areas throughout the Spring and Fall seasons.

Now, with “A Taste of Cowboy”, Kent reveals through recipes, photographs, stories and poetry, a portrait of life on real working ranches. Here you will find dozens of satisfying comfort food dishes that raise basic pantry ingredients to the highest level.

Also included in the book is a detailed history of the Chuck Wagon, instructions for caring for and seasoning your cast iron (the cowboy’s most important and sometimes only piece of cookware), essential equipment (including makeshift items that come in handy when you’re on the range) and a complete Cowboy Lingo glossary.
