U.S. hog producers intend to have 2.93 million sows farrow between September 2023 and November 2023, and 2.91 million sows farrow between December 2023 and February 2024.
Although the deadline for submitting the ag census has just passed, NASS will continue to accept completed census questionnaires through the spring to ensure all farmers and ranchers take advantage of the opportunity to be represented in the widely used data.
As of Dec. 1, there were 73.1 million hogs and pigs on U.S. farms, down 2% from December 2021 and down 1% from Sept. 1, 2022, according to the Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report that was recently published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The 2021 Organic Survey is a survey of all known U.S. farms and ranches with certified organic production in 2021, as well as those transitioning into organic production.
