Shannon Enterprises of W.N.Y. Inc., the world- leading designer and maker of reusable thermal and acoustic insulation, has designed a custom fit, protective enclosure called the Shannon Rain Shield to protect complex surfaces and sensitive equipment such as pumps, motors, electronic actuators and metering equipment. The Shannon Rain Shield enhances and extends the service life of sensitive components from water, moisture-humidity and chemicals.
Shannon introduced the Rain Shield to eliminate the problems associated with wash-down sanitary conditions by providing custom-fit enclosures for each critical device. Operator efficiency can improve with easier access and faster prep time for wash-down activities.
“Safety is a really big deal at the plant process level with plant engineers and safety managers,” says Frank Kovacs, president of Shannon. “Any way to improve field conditions and access to critical equipment and components makes the investment well worth it long term. Accessibility is the key, reusability is the benefit.”
With reusability being a key component, Shannon manufactures each Rain Shield to last from five to ten years. Durability allows for use multiple times a day, and managers can install each shield for temporary or permanent purposes.
By protecting important equipment such as meters, valves, and pumps, Shannon spares companies from potential replacement costs that reach up to tens of thousands of dollars. The Shannon Rain Shield also helps companies reach specific waste initiatives. The shield’s reusable feature benefits the customer who wants to avoid the disposal of unnecessary plastic and tape, typically applied with every wash-down cycle. With this product, Shannon is specifically targeting food and beverage or pharmaceutical companies striving to meet personal, zero-waste initiatives. The Rain Shield provides an opportunity to help meet waste reduction goals.
Shannon Rain Shield is CAD/CNC-designed and manufactured, allowing for a precise fit and finish. Enclosure designs accommodate wiring and piping conduit, brackets, sight glass panels and all obstructions in and around the protective surfaces.
Shannon custom designs the Rain Shield to accommodate chemicals and temperatures ranging up to six hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Fabric jacketing includes Silicone Fiberglass, PTFE Fiberglass, PTFE Film, Composite Laminate Aluminized Fiberglass, Vinyl Polypropylene, Vinyl Nylon, Clear Vinyl and more.
