An employee at Smithfield Foods' Smithfield, Va., processing plant has been suspended pending an investigation after a video was released showing him allegedly urinating while on the production line. The video, which aired on WAVY News, showed an employee remove his gloves, appear to relieve himself, and put the gloves on before continuing to work.
A Smithfield spokesperson issued a statement that the company was aware of the incident. Lisa Martin of Smithfield Foods said that, in accordance with Smithfield’s food safety and quality standards, more than 50,000 pounds of product were disposed of following a swift internal investigation.
"The facility immediately halted production, fully cleaned the processing line and sanitized all equipment multiple times before resuming operations,” she said.
