Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) is excited to announce two new team members, Dr. Roy Jacob and Dr. Claudia Osorio. Both veterinarians have specialized experience in the field of poultry medicine. Their addition to the U.S. Poultry Veterinary Services team represents the company’s commitment to enhance their customer support.
Dr. Roy Jacob acquired his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in 2005 at Kerala Agricultural University in India. After several years as an assistant veterinarian, Dr. Jacob moved to the U.S. to complete his Master of Science in Biology at Bucknell University. He obtained a Doctorate in Agricultural Science – Poultry Science at Mississippi State University. Dr. Jacob is currently pursuing his Master of Avian Health and Medicine at the University of Georgia, which will further advance his industry knowledge.
Dr. Jacob’s wealth of knowledge regarding poultry science is evidenced by his graduate research focusing on poultry health management and disease prevention. He has spent the last two years as the Senior Technical Services Veterinarian in Poultry for Bayer US, LLC.
Dr. Claudia Osorio achieved her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at La Salle University in Bogotá, Colombia in 1990. She worked directly with farmers and ranch owners in Colombia before moving into a position as Laboratory Diagnostic Center Director at the Colombian Agriculture Institute, where she worked until 2000. Dr. Osorio also completed Advanced Studies on Protozoan Diseases at Japan’s Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.
In 2001, Dr. Osorio began honing her expertise in poultry as a Research Specialist for the University of Pennsylvania Laboratory of Avian Pathology, where she participated in early detection of avian influenza monitoring programs. She became a Poultry Health Management Resident at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, with an emphasis on field investigations and research related to poultry health management and disease prevention. Dr. Osorio also instructed students and industry personnel utilizing her bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
After receiving her Master of Specialized Veterinary Medicine in Avian Medicine from NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, she took a position at the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Salisbury Animal Health Laboratory. Dr. Osorio served as the primary agency pathology diagnostician for poultry species, and as the regional veterinarian responsible for all animal health regulatory programs and emergency diagnostic operations for the Lower Delmarva Region of Maryland. She committed 10 years to the Salisbury Animal Health Laboratory, departing as Director in 2017.
Dr. Jacob and Dr. Osorio bring BI an abundance of poultry expertise and experience.
