Best-of-Show bacon nets $22,000 in auction at Wisconsin State Fair
Wytennbach Meats of Prarie du Sac, Wis., won the Best of Show award at the Wisconsin State Fair meat products contest. The winning product was then sold twice at a charity auction for a total of $22,000, reports the Wisconsin State Farmer. It was first sold for $16,000 to Pagel’s Ponderosa, Ron’s Wisconsin Cheese and John T. Pagel, who then donated the product back to have it sold to Wisconsin Souvenir Milkcaps for $6,000.
A total of $130,000 was raised during the charity auction. The grand champions of each category are as follows:
Flavored Bacon: Wytennbach Meats
Bone-In Ham: Louie’s Finer Meats, Cumberland
Flavored Summer Sausage: Haen Meat Packing, Kaukauna
Dried or Smoked Beef: Louie’s Finer Meats
Traditional Snack Sausages: Lake Geneva Country Meats, Lake Geneva
Specialty Cooked Bratwurst: Louie’s Finer Meats
Whole Muscle Jerky: Eden Meat Market, Eden
Cured Specialty Meat Market: Wytennbach Meats (Ultimate Bacon)
Kielbasa or Smoked Sausage: Geiss Meat Service, Merrill
