The AOAC Research Institute (AOAC-RI) has approved a method extension of Performance Tested Method #030502 to include the latest DuPont BAX System X5 PCR Assay for Genus Listeria. This approval validates the assay as a reliable method for detecting Listeria species in frankfurters, smoked salmon, spinach and cheese and from environmental surfaces.
“Listeria testing is critical for the food industry – particularly for dairy products, fresh produce and ready-to-eat meats – as an indicator that harmful L. monocytogenes may be present,” said Troy Ayers, Americas sales leader for Diagnostics, DuPont Nutrition & Health. “Accurate, reliable and flexible testing for Listeria is a priority for these industries to quickly detect and help eliminate pathogens that could lead to serious public health concerns.”
The DuPont BAX System X5, which provides automated PCR-based DNA amplification and automatic pathogen detection for up to 32 samples at a time, was introduced to the food industry in July 2015. The system is designed to offer the same fast, accurate and easy-to-use pathogen detection solution that customers expect from the BAX System method, but in a smaller lightweight construction to provide greater testing flexibility. BAX System X5 PCR assays were previously validated by AOAC-RI for detecting Salmonella and L. monocytogenes in food and environmental samples.
