OSI has been actively donating food and time in the communities surrounding the company's plants and offices in the U.S. over the past few years, with plans for additional donations to take place for the balance of 2015.
So far this year, the company has donated more than 150,000 pounds of wholesome food products to food banks across the country through its partnership with Feeding America and has conducted multiple volunteer nights at the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB). OSI employees have also given up some of their free time to work in the garden for NIFB's "Farm Days," where vegetables have been planted to meet the community's need for such produce. These actions have resulted in more than 100 volunteer hours to support food insecure community members.
OSI locations have also conducted a number of campaigns to support additional causes, including the collection of more than 25 pounds of soda can tabs to support Ronald McDonald House Charities. Additionally, through its "Candy Cares" campaign, OSI donates proceeds from a special candy concession to a variety of local initiatives, including a recent contribution of $450 to help pay for the tutoring of a young Neurofibromatosis patient. Furthermore, the company has been collecting box tops and labels, as well as other rewards program entries, to help fund local schools.
"These programs are a way for us to give back to the community and each one has been supported by our management team," said Larry Glaser, OSI's assistant vice president and director of operations support, and environmental chairman for North America. "In 2012, we formed the OSI Community Outreach Team to help organize the efforts of employees who are willing to donate their time and resources. The response has been overwhelming. We are always looking for new ways to help people who really need it."
