A fire at the Bloomfield Processing Co. plant in Bloomfield, Ind., late last week resulted in the loss of the entire facility. Seventy firefighters from nine departments throughout Greene County worked to battle the blaze, which broke out last Thursday night. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but Switz City Fire Chief Bryan Woodall said that fire personnel do not suspect arson, reports the Greene County Daily World.
No injuries were reported. According to Woodall, the business owner left the building approximately 10 minutes before the fire was called in, and nobody else was in the building at the time, and there were no reported injuries to firefighters or other personnel on the scene.
Bloomfield Processing is an award-winning company owned by Brian and Mary Kollmeyer. The company offers a variety of cured meats, custom processing and frozen meats and vegetables. While the building itself was a total loss, customers’ meat was stored in a freezer and was not affected by the fire.
