The American Meat Institute joined several food industry groups as part of the Dietary Guidelines Industry Coalition that filed comments requesting more transparency and consistency from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) as it deliberates recommendations for the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The comments highlight inconsistencies in the way research is being evaluated by different DGAC subcommittees and in how conclusion statements are being developed.
The coalition also requested clarification on how literature highlighted in public comments is incorporated into the DGAC process and expressed concern about the meeting materials provided to the public, which did not include presentations from the subcommittees. Finally, the coalition recommended opening to the public the last DGAC meeting to the public to allow interested groups to participate. The final DGAC meeting is expected to take place in early November.
