The Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (MISA) Foundation raised over $93,500 at its annual dinner and auction held last week in Orlando, Florida. A record number of attendees bid on items ranging from advertising packages to electronics at the annual event held in conjunction with the FPSA Annual Meeting and Conference.
“We are so appreciative of the support not just from our membership, but also from other industry groups, our trade publications, and the processors, all of whom joined together to help us reach this milestone,” said Tom Hoffmann, Chairman of the Foundation. “The MISA Foundation is fortunate to have so many friends who recognize the value of our mission.”
In 2014, the Foundation will be awarding seven $5,000 scholarships to students studying the meat sciences at universities across the country. The application period is currently open, and students will be able to apply through May 1st of 2014.
“The record setting results from this auction is proof that the association’s membership takes seriously their responsibility about “giving back” to the meat industry,” added David Seckman, President/CEO of FPSA.
The $93,596 marks a 25% increase over the amount raised in 2013. The 2015 auction is scheduled to be held on March 20, 2015 in conjunction with the FPSA Annual Conference at the Omni La Costa Resort in La Costa, California.
